With rapid economic development in Southeast Asia, the world’s leading brands and e-commerce platforms are beginning to compete in a new market. In recent two years, Alibaba, Tencent and Amazon for instance have been investing continuously in this market, an undeniable fact underlining the great development prospect in the region’s retail industry. As one of the fastest growing economies in the region, Malaysia is among the best in the “most attractive” ranking of global retail development. According to research by relevant departments, Malaysia has the most pro-business retail environment among all Southeast Asian countries, and its fast-moving consumer goods market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 6% by 2021. In addition, with new technologies such as artificial intelligence and consumption upgrades, the retail industry is facing tremendous changes. This new round of change is based on smart retail as the main development direction, accelerating the industry layout.
